Good Hotel Guide Review
Much loved by Guide readers, Rodolfo Gattai’s B&B is in ‘one of Florence’s loveliest squares’, ‘easily reached from all directions’. Built in 1527 for the order of the Serviti fathers, it is ‘rich in atmosphere, tranquillity and comfort’. ‘Gracefully restored, in understated style’, the stone-vaulted building has polished oak floors, iron or wooden bedsteads, efficient air conditioning, ‘beautiful furniture, good, helpful service’. Bedrooms vary in size and quality. ‘Ours had views of the floodlit duomo, and a handsome canopied bed.’ ‘Wooden floors, antique furniture. All very tasteful.’ Front rooms face the lovely piazza but hear summer jazz concerts, rubbish removal, etc. The rooms at the rear are ‘utterly quiet’, though some may ‘lack character’. ‘Excellent buffet breakfast’ (stewed and fresh fruit, cheese, ham, hot croissants, yogurt, etc). Staff are ‘always on hand but unobtrusive and most helpful in dealing with any request’.
