Good Hotel Guide Review
The ‘charming’ de Ponte family have converted the quinta and other buildings on their banana plantation (they have owned it since 1507) into this small rural hotel just outside Garachico. A visitor on a return visit found it ‘as good as ever’. Other guests thought it ‘wonderful, very good value’. ‘A delightful setting’ (above a bay on the peaceful north-west corner of the island). Guests can walk through the plantation to a small black sand beach. ‘Gardeners tend the beautiful, large gardens, which have quiet corners with seats, a good-sized swimming pool surrounded by flowers and shrubs.’ The bedrooms are in two buildings: each has a lounge with honesty bar. The annexe building is being refurbished in 2015. ‘We stayed in a converted cattle byre overlooking plantation and hills; traditional furnishings, tiled floors, spotlessly clean.’ ‘We were upgraded to a room with private terrace.’ ‘Excellent buffet breakfast: a flow of cooked eggs, bacon and tomatoes, good bread, fruit, wonderful bananas from the estate.’ A fixed-price dinner is available twice a week and can be ordered at breakfast: ‘good plain cooking’. ‘Garachico has many restaurants (dinner is around 7.30 here, earlier than in mainland Spain). ‘Do not miss the national park in the volcanic centre of the island.’
