Good Hotel Guide Review
‘Still sailing well’, this 17th-century house in the Old Town is the flagship of the Bengtsson family’s group of three Stockholm hotels (see also Lady Hamilton). Dedicated to the memory of Lord Nelson, it is crammed with memorabilia, figureheads, etc. A letter from Nelson to Lady Hamilton is displayed in the lobby. Visitors found the staff ‘efficient and friendly’, and enjoyed ‘the usual admirable breakfast’. ‘Our daughter loved the furniture and the nautical theme’: each bedroom is named after a Swedish sea captain from the great age of sailing ships. ‘Our roof-top junior suite presented the usual challenges (like controlling the roof-light blinds), and an ideal space for an extra bed.’ The bistro/bar serves drinks and snacks, and there’s a restaurant, wine bar and cigar bar, plus a new addition is the sushi restaurant – but with meat instead of fish. ‘Ideally situated for sightseeing’, the hotel is in a traffic-free area (but a busy road system is nearby). The hotel also offers four self-catering apartments nearby.
