Good Hotel Guide Review
A stone-clad 19th-century nobleman’s residence, modelled on a 14th century fortress, Villa Carlotta, perches high on a cliff above the Ionian Sea, with stunning panoramic views, and a vista of Mount Etna over the countryside inland. Surrounding the villa, lush Mediterranean gardens contain palm trees, lemon and olive groves and bougainvillea, and an interesting section of roman road, as well as a swimming pool in a sheltered spot. The chic Italian interior combines old with new – black lava and white limestone, and terracotta floors, painted furniture, modern fabrics and antiques. A wall of Byzantine catacombs has been exposed in the stylish downstairs bar. At the top of the tower, buffet breakfasts, lunch and dinner are served in a large conservatory-style room or on the roof terrace. Light meals are available throughout the day. Comfortable sofas make the library a perfect place to relax in the evenings. Villa Carlotta is owned by the Quartuccis who also own Villa Ducale, Taormina.
