Good Hotel Guide Review
In this famous street in the pedestrianised centre, this old hotel, opposite the festival hall, has been managed for several years by Wolfgang Putz. Composed of several tall, narrow houses, it has a lift, also ‘rather a lot of stairs and creaky floorboards’. Antlers, wood-carved statues and old furniture adorn its public areas. ‘Excellently run’, ‘very friendly; great attention to detail,’ say visitors. The bedrooms on various levels are ‘comfortable and decorated with taste’: most are furnished with antiques. The main restaurant, ‘very Austrian in feel’, serves ‘good meat courses’, veal, venison, etc; the Austrian wines (but not the others) are ‘reasonably priced’. In the ‘atmospheric’ tavern, Herzl, ‘jolly female staff serve hearty local fare’. The Green Bar, with its covered courtyard and ‘folksy atmosphere’, is frequented by locals. Breakfast has ‘plenty of choice’. ‘Some traffic noise.’
