Good Hotel Guide Review
A ‘lovely traditional hotel’, much enjoyed by visitors: ‘We can’t give it enough accolades,’ one reader wrote. Another adds: ‘What a delightful place. Some of the nicest, most professional hoteliers I have come across.’ An ancient creeper-covered inn, with panelling, beamed ceilings and carved wooden furniture, it is in a residential suburb a short ride by trolley bus from the centre. The ‘extremely helpful’ Karl and Anneliese Schnöll (his family have owned it for over a century) run it with their identical twin daughters and younger son. ‘The people, the service and the menus reflect the finest that Salzburg offers. Beautiful walking area, sounds of cowbells,’ says this year’s reporter. Others wrote: ‘You can combine visits to the city with a relaxing setting against wooded hills.’ ‘Delightful dogs.’ Breakfast is in a conservatory. For dinner you can eat à la carte or choose a simple set menu. ‘Food of a high standard.’ There is a swimming pool in the garden, and also one indoors. Some bedrooms have a balcony. Ten minutes’ walk away is the Von Trapp family home.
