Good Hotel Guide Review
Set in a farmhouse dating from 1789 in the ski resort of La Clusaz, Le Vieux Chalet is ‘a very small but perfectly located and charmingly decorated hotel’, according to recent visitors. It’s open for hotel guests in the winter season, and in summer the whole property is offered as a rental. The farmhouse was renovated in 2007 using skilled local artisans. It is set right on the ski slopes, at the top of a lift, and it was ‘truly magical to be able to just put on our skis and be off straight away’ (the vilage centre is a ten minute walk away). Rooms are cosy and wood-panelled, and suites have living areas. ‘The meals were superb, and served in a dining room with a roaring fire. Breakfast was with fresh fruit, homemade cakes and jams etc. Dinner was utterly delicious.’ Bruno, who has managed the hotel for the last ten years and oversaw its renovation, ‘is efficient and reactive. He was there every afternoon, making us feel almost like it we were his private guests. He supervises a team of young and cheerful staff who made us feel at home and organised ski passes or prepared us a picnic when needed’. Free airport transfers are included, and breakfast is served until noon.
