Good Hotel Guide Review
‘Pleasant, friendly and well appointed’, and ‘excellent value for money’, this neat town house (c. 1900) is an upmarket B&B hotel, yellow-painted and fronted by flowery window boxes. Owned by Brigitte Schauss, and managed by Peter, her husband (‘charming, most helpful, he speaks excellent English’), it is on the promenade near the boat jetty, facing the broad Rhine, and with the Altstadt just behind. ‘Each room is different; some furniture is rustic.’ ‘Our very nice, river-facing room was large, pleasantly furnished but noisy (road and railway).’ Windows are double glazed, and rear rooms are quieter. The next-door restaurant is ‘very good’. Andernach has the world’s largest cold water spring. The Information Center is next to the hotel and there are many medieval buildings. The castle ruins are 14th-century. The Rheintor, a fortified gateway, dates from the 12th century. ‘A good base for Rhine and Mosel trips,’ say visitors.
