Good Hotel Guide Review
‘A lovely hotel in a beautiful setting’; ‘calm and quiet’. One of the Guide’s best-loved hotels, the ‘beautiful, old bastide’, outside a delightful small town below the Massif de la Sainte Baume, stands in a large walled garden with swimming pool and fountain. It is liked for its ‘special atmosphere’, created by the grounds, the 18th century building and above all by the charming owner and helpful staff’, and ‘air of faded gentility’. Magnificent plane trees shade the terrace: at one end are sofas where drinks are served. You dine at the other end in Restaurant Le Grand Café for traditional dishes, or in the Michelin-starred Mathias Dandine Restaurant for ‘superb’ gastronomic cooking. ‘Professional service from discreet staff.’ ‘They are totally flexible about children’s meals.’ The spacious bedrooms are ‘beautifully furnished’. ‘I liked our green-flecked marble bathroom.’
