Good Hotel Guide Review
‘Wonderful’, ‘excellent value’, are comments on the Bonnet family’s hotel in the centre, near the Cours Mirabeau. Léopold Bonnet turned a garage into a restaurant in 1936, and later added guest rooms. The Art Deco-style Brasserie Léopold still has some paintings by ‘les amis des arts’, local painters of the 1930s. It serves dishes from Alsace (eg, varieties of choucroute) and Provence (eg, fish soup) and is very popular; book a table in advance. The bar provides teas, ice creams and ‘colourful cocktails’. ‘The breakfast buffet has lots of choice. Bedrooms can be smallish, but furnishings are excellent, and soundproofing means there is almost no traffic noise.’ Some rooms have a terrace; some suites have a view of Mont Ste-Victoire.
