Good Hotel Guide Review
In this small seaside resort, close to busy Boulogne, father-and-son Alain and Benjamin Delpierre”s “excellent” Art Deco-fronted hotel stands on the pedestrianised promenade on to which some of the sea-facing bedrooms lead. They have “panoramic views”, and “enjoy radiant sunsets”. Visitors this year had a “simple, but well-designed room with lots of space, lovely bathroom, sheltered balcony with seats and a table”. Another guest who arrived in the dark wrote: “A sea view was unnecessary; my small, but comfortable room at the back was exceptional value.” One couple enjoyed “breakfast on our balcony, with pretty Limoges china” and the “fun marine decor”: fish sculptures, shell-patterned bedspreads, etc. The elegant first-floor restaurant has huge picture windows facing the Channel. Most visitors think the seafood cuisine “wonderful” (14 Gault Millau points for, eg, oysters on a bed of crushed garlic, tomatoes and courgette purée; sea bass with an almond and lemon zest crust), but one thought it “competent, rather than spectacular”. Another found service “very slow”.Fish dishes and fruits de mer are also served in the downstairs brasserie, decorated in white and turquoise, which offers “excellent value”. The wide, sandy beach is popular with French families.
