Good Hotel Guide Review
In a rural setting, just outside a small village between Montreuil-sur-Mer and Hesdin, Marie-Hélène Flament runs this “superb” chambres d”hôtes. “She is a joy,” say readers on a return visit. The building, which has its origins in a 12th-century fort of the Knights Templar (she showed our inspector a stone cannon ball found on site), is in a garden bordering on the pretty little River Créquoise. Earlier comments: “Magical.” “Charming. The vivacious owner is a mine of local information.” The rooms, furnished in French country style, face the garden and river. One has a conservatory and kitchen. The suite, with two bedrooms, bathroom and games room, is ideal for a family. “Delicious breakfasts” with home-made jams are served in a room with a log fire. At weekends Mme Flament often bakes a cake for her guests: “She insisted that we take some home.” She will make reservations for dinner: there are plenty of restaurants in nearby towns. Within easy reach are the medieval centre at Azincourt (a “must” for lovers of history), and the Abbey of Valloires (superb rose gardens).
