Good Hotel Guide Review
Owned and run by Eric and Petra Toren since they took over from Eric’s father in 1991, this opulently-decorated hotel prides itself on its excellent customer service: staff have been praised for being helpful but never intrusive, and the atmosphere here is friendly and relaxed rather than cool and trendy. The hotel consists of two separate 17th century canal houses on the upmarket Keizersgracht, in the Jordaan, and within easy reach of attractions such as Anne Frank Huis. Rooms vary in size from compact to extremely spacious, and each is individually decorated in a theatrically stylish manner, but dim lighting, velvet wallpaper and shades of purple, red, black and gold make give it a sense of warmth and romance. The super luxe hotel bar doubles up as a breakfast room, and light meals (such as cheese platters and sandwiches) are available during the day.
