A long-time Guide favourite, this hotel is spread among ten 17th-century gabled houses on two of the city’s finest canals (Herengracht and Singel). Its beautiful location is quiet and peaceful, yet within walking distance of Amsterdam’s major attractions. The canal houses have been carefully restored to maintain their authentic character. Each room has its own unique character and specific charm. The hotel has an extensive modern art collection with the avant-garde Cobra movement as its focal point. Public rooms were renovated by the renowned Spanish architects, Cruz y Ortiz. The library/bar showcases a collection of more then 5,000 books, all first editions signed by authors who have stayed at the Ambassade Hotel (Martin Amis, Salman Rushdie, Umberto Eco, etc). There is a unique float and massage centre “Koan Float” nearby. Other features include 24 hour room service, tasteful lounges where guests can relax as well as a 17th century style meeting hall. Breakfast (7 until 11 am; 11.30 at weekends) in the brasserie is lavish. Many good restaurants nearby; however the Ambassade Hotel also has an excellent restaurant, the French-style Brasserie Ambassade.
