Good Hotel Guide Review
“A peaceful spot, stunningly beautiful,” say visitors to the Petiteau family”s 20th-century “Anglo-Norman” half-timbered mill house. With towers and turrets, it straddles an arm of the Seine near Les Andelys. A series of islands splits the river into channels, and the hotel forms a bridge: you can watch boats pass below as you dine. “The river, with willows, is at its most beautiful here.” The bedrooms vary in size: some are a bit “poky”. One couple this year had a room where “you needed to be a gymnast to get into the bed”, another thought the “shabby chic had gone a little too far”, though they liked the “charming touches” such as complimentary liqueur, and the “amazing circular sunken bath” in their tower suite. Others had a “lovely, spacious room with balcony above the water”. The half-board menu is “good value and tasty”. In the lovely park are fine old trees and birds; there is a heated swimming pool on an island, and “you can use the rowing boats free’. Some traffic noise, morning and early evening, from the nearby road.
