“Seven days of great comfort in a superb location” were enjoyed at the Cesne family”s holiday hotel in a pieds dans l”eau position on the Cotentin peninsula, south of Cherbourg. On a tidal estuary in a small fishing port/summer resort, it is near superb beaches and a marina. The food is thought “exceptional” (Michelin star for Laurent Cesne”s “inventive cuisine”, eg, huîtres en nage glacée de cornichons; volaille à la créançoise, sauce foie gras). “Delicious desserts.” “Mme Cesne and her staff are charming”; “she works hard to ensure everything is perfect.” “The waiters were professional but amusing.” The lounge, “like an ocean liner”, the terrace, and the restaurant all face the water. Breakfast is “standard French”. Bedrooms facing the estuary are “spacious, warm, well equipped”; best ones have a balcony. Annexe ones have good facilities but not the views. Some rooms are small and basic. Many guests are British.
