Good Hotel Guide Review
‘A wonderful little hotel,’ say visitors. ‘An excellent welcome; we much enjoyed our junior suite.’ Another comment: ‘The ambience is beautifully done. The small number of rooms, the lack of a formal reception desk, the security-coded entrance number enable one to come and go as if at home. Not cheap, but it avoids pretension.’ Sensitively restored, this tall, narrow, 17th-century house in Palma’s old quarter has wrought iron, tiled floors, antique furniture, Mallorcan tiles in the air-conditioned bedrooms on the two top floors (the best rooms have an open fireplace and a terrace). There is a ground-floor patio, an Art Deco bar (brought from Paris) in the bar/breakfast room, and a ‘beautiful small swimming pool’, surrounded by palms and bougainvillaea, on the second level. The ‘delicious’ breakfast has fresh orange juice, yogurt, fruit, eggs, and ensaimada (flaky pastry). Two bedrooms above an alley can be noisy; rear ones have a balcony or terrace facing the cathedral. The hotel is owned and managed by Rudolph Schmid. No restaurant; plenty nearby; so is Palma’s modern art museum, Es Baluard.
