Good Hotel Guide Review
On a beautiful bay, with a river on either side, on the beautiful island of Cefallonia, this ‘blissful’ B&B hotel, owned by the ‘genuinely welcoming’ Dorizas family, continues to be liked. Ioannis (Janni) Dorizas runs it with his wife, Maryann; brother Periklis is the chef;and does the bar. ‘On arrival, there is an ouzo on the house.’ ‘Our spotless room and bathroom were simply furnished.’ The small bedroom balconies look over the Ionian Sea. There is a ‘Rolls-Royce of a lift’. In the ‘immaculately maintained’ grounds are palm trees, bamboos and eucalyptus, and a sizeable L-shaped pool with a ‘very nice’ bar which serves lunchtime snacks. Breakfast is ‘a plentiful buffet’. Children are welcomed. Sámi, a ‘pleasant 15-minute stroll away’ and surrounded by hills, has several restaurants facing its harbour. It is on the less touristy side of the island (most of the filming of Captain Corelli’s Mandolin took place around here). A regular car ferry operates to the nearby island of Ithaca (‘totally unspoilt with spectacular scenery: a car is essential’).
