Good Hotel Guide Review
Dating in part from the 12th century, this “truly beautiful”, many-turreted castle stands high on a cliff above the River Lot, in “beautiful formal gardens” on a wine-growing estate: the views from the terrace are “magic”. Once the residence of the comtes-éveques of Cahors, it is now a luxury hotel (Relais & Châteaux), owned by Georges Vigouroux (“his wines are splendid”). It has been tastefully modernised. Recent comments: “Expensive, but worth every euro: a very honeymoony sort of place.” “Wonderful, with every comfort, splendid, very rich food.” Regional fare with an emphasis on truffles is served in the large, high-ceilinged Louis XV restaurant, or in a courtyard. There are tiled floors in public areas, and flowery fabrics in bedrooms (the best ones are said to be those in a tower). An Olympic-size swimming pool is “discreetly hidden at the bottom of the park”. Some noise from the railway in the valley.
