Good Hotel Guide Review
On the edge of this village, famous for the discovery of the cave of Cro-Magnon man nearby, and very touristy in summer, this ‘first-rate’ hotel stands by the winding River Vézère. Though on the main road, it is quiet, protected by a high stone wall and backed by limestone cliffs. It is owned by Alain and Geneviève Scholly with chef Roland Mazère whose cuisine périgourdine (two Michelin stars, 18 Gault Millau points) includes langoustines rôties à la broche, fleurs de courgettes du jardin. Decor is modern and sleek. In the small, shady garden is an ‘excellent’ swimming pool. ‘Rooms good value, service excellent,’ is a recent comment. Many bedrooms are large, with modern bathroom. Some have a balcony facing hills. Breakfast (‘a fine buffet’) is in a glass-ceilinged atrium. Loungers and parasols stand on the lawn.
