Good Hotel Guide Review
In a ‘delightful’ small wine-growing town between the rivers Garonne and Dordogne, the Blanchet family’s restaurant-with-rooms has a terrace facing Duras’s 14th-century fortress which looks across a vast plain. It stands in a quiet garden with a good pool. In the dining room (with 18th-century decor), there is an often-changing menu featuring local produce. Fresh bread is baked daily. Mixed views of the rooms: ‘Ours, on the ground floor in the annexe, had plenty of space, easy wheelchair access, well-adapted shower and bathroom.’ But another couple thought their small room ‘nothing special (bathroom with plastic sliding door)’. Marguerite Duras, née Donnadieu, chose her nom-de-plume because her parents once lived near here. Also near is the Lac de Castelgaillard with water sports, horse riding, etc.
