Good Hotel Guide Review
Staying here is “a very good experience”, says a visitor this year to this creeper-clad 16th-century mill, now a luxurious hotel owned by Régis Bulot, president of the Relais & Châteaux association. Its managers are Bernard and Yvette Dessum. It stands at the foot of a cliff in this beautiful, if touristy, little Périgord town. On one side is the 11th-century abbey, on the other the River Dronne, surging over a weir. Other comments: “Delightful.” “Not cheap, but you get what you pay for.” “Excellent food and service.” There is a gourmet restaurant, and two simpler eating places, Au Fil de l”Eau, a fish bistro by the river, and Fil du Temps (grill/Périgord specialities). All have a dining terrace. Many of the rustic-style bedrooms face the river. Rooms in the annexes, La Maison du Meunier and La Maison de l”Abbé, may be quieter than those in the mill but “have less atmosphere”, according to our inspector. “The salons are welcoming in a clubby way.”
