Good Hotel Guide Review
On a small private island in the south Adriatic (Sveti Klement), off the coast of the island of Hvar, this ‘splendid’ complex (‘my favourite place for a weekend break’, says a fan) is owned and run by Dagmar Meneghello, journalist and arts patron, with her three adult children, Djenko, Romina and Tarin. Accommodation is in stone villas, each one different, each with a terrace, in a subtropical botanical garden. Most have a lounge with an extra bed. ‘I love the white villa on the waterfront.’ No cars: numerous taxi boats run from Hvar, or you can anchor your boat in their harbour. ‘The terrace restaurant serves some of the best food in the country (delicious lobster and shellfish risotto) with local wine.’ The other restaurant, Toto’s, is on the beach. ‘In this sophisticated place you can attend small Sunday classical concerts, meet artists and see their works and many ancient amphorae in Dagmar’s art gallery.’ A child-friendly and pet-friendly place: the island has many beaches. Activities include fishing, diving, water sports, etc. There are also three other restaurants in the bay. Accommodation is not self-catering.
