Good Hotel Guide Review
Terraced on to a cliff on the southern side of Dubrovnik, this striking modern building faces the old walled town and the island of Lokrum. Pine trees, flowers and blue awnings give a Riviera flavour. ‘The views are outstanding,’ say visitors. ‘Management was friendly, if impersonal.’ Others wrote: ‘Truly magic, with excellent service.’ ‘An excellent hotel.’ ‘Our room was sparkling clean.’ Summer meals are served on the vine-covered terrace facing the old town. Breakfast is continental, from an a la carte menu, and served at the table. Most visitors have found the cooking ‘good but very pricey’ with ‘good local seafood’. The bedrooms, all sea-facing, have a balcony and ‘fabulous views’ (except the penthouses, which have views from the living rooms). Some rooms are quite small, and ‘in some the bathroom is separated by a glass window from the bedroom area – fortunately there was a curtain you could pull over it for privacy’. Swimming is in the large covered non-chlorinated pool, with ocean views, or in crystal-clear water off rocks in front of the hotel (sunbeds and umbrellas provided). But the ‘beach’ is concrete, and 66 steep steps lead from the hotel to the road above. You can walk to the city in 20 minutes, or take the hotel’s motorboat.
