Good Hotel Guide Review
This unusual hotel is located not far from the seafront, behind the mighty Hôtel Negresco. Visitors called it ‘a delight’. Fairly quiet, yet lively, it has a quirky style. The hall is decorated differently every year by a contemporary artist. ‘The lift says “seven, six, five, start main engines, four, three, two, one, lift off”. Then the doors open.’ Artists have decorated many of the bedrooms: ‘Our large room, done in great style and overlooking the garden, had a Buddha mural and an open-plan bathroom.’ Some have found the smaller rooms a little too small, and found the decor a little dated. The ‘splendid Moroccan garden’, ‘overgrown, charming’, with bouganvillea, fruit trees and a cage of parrots, has taped (‘rather scratchy’) birdsong and a very small heated swimming pool (‘often in the shade’). ‘In late October, dinner outdoors, with lights in the trees, was delightful. Good food, charming service.’ On cool days, guests dine by a fire in the panelled dining room. There is a ‘congenial’ small bar, open 24 hours a day. ‘Breakfast was good.’
