Good Hotel Guide Review
“Does one endorse Paradise?” asks a visitor to this handsome, white 18th-century manor house. Its “charming owner”, Pierre Buffet, say other guests, “has with great élan combined the old, “bashed-up” look with the new (modern bathrooms, exquisite swimming pool)”. It stands by the sea in large grounds among palms, oleanders and eucalyptus trees, on the loveliest of the three Îles d”Hyères, a hilly, densely wooded nature reserve, with subtropical vegetation, and a population of only about 30. No traffic (not even bicycles) is allowed, nor is fishing. “Noisy crickets overlay the deep silence of the island.” Some rooms have a private terrace, all face south. “You can feel really private, yet they have thought of everything you could want.” Meals (a set menu or a la carte) are served on the terrace. “The food is delicious, imaginative and light.” “Games, newspapers and books are provided in the comfortable lounge. Excellent breakfast.” It is a 25-minute trek to sandy beaches.
