Good Hotel Guide Review
Between Nice and Monte Carlo, this ‘impeccable hotel’, owned by Gérard Galbois, stands opposite the fishermen’s chapel decorated by Cocteau. ‘He wrote Orphée in the Welcome,’ says a reader, ‘and his shadow lies long across it, with pictures, sketches, even a mosaic signature on the lobby floor.’ All bedrooms face the bay and Cap Ferrat; they vary in size, but all have a balcony. ‘Our large room had three easy chairs, and a view across the bay to the fabulous Rothschild villa.’ There is a wine bar. Breakfast is a buffet on the verandah or you can have a simple continental breakfast in your room. No restaurant, but there are 12 nearby, ranging from ‘casual’ to ‘refined’. Mère Germaine is liked. There are diving clubs close by, and a sailing boat for 8 people can be rented. Villefranche is a ‘gem’ of a town, and there’s an ‘excellent coastal walk on paved footpaths westward’. The hotel is also in easy walking distance of the beach. The hotel has an Eco-label certification.
