Good Hotel Guide Review
“A super place. Dining here is to be savoured: food, setting, service all extremely satisfying.” “Even better this time.” Praise from returning visitors for owner/chef Jacky Michel”s hotel in this market town on the edge of the Champagne district. He has a Michelin star for his “original, delicious” cooking and shows a real commitment to fresh local produce and sensitivity to evolving tastes. Specialities, served in an elegant white-and-yellow room, include langoustines à la nage au Chardonnay; carré d”agneau rôti au parfum d”orange. There’s also a brasserie for simpler (and less expensive) fare. Other praise included the “very friendly staff” and the “sophisticated public rooms.” “Buffet breakfast, with huge choice, the best we have had in France.” Bedrooms vary: some are quite small, but one couple had a “huge room and bathroom”. Triple glazing keeps out noise from the busy road. Only drawback: “The lack of outside space.” The town has “boring postwar streets”, but a fine Gothic cathedral.
