Good Hotel Guide Review
On an attractive square just off La Rambla, next to the Liceu opera house (and Metro station), this former convent of St Augustin has ‘simple, comfortable accommodation — good value’. It claims to be the oldest hotel in the city, and it has been run by one family for four generations. The spacious lounges are ‘pleasantly old-fashioned’, one reporter wrote. Others said: ‘Staff are friendly. The owner was helpful. Our back room was pleasantly cool, thanks to air conditioning. It had wooden floors, lots of storage space, a safe, excellent marble bathroom, really hot water. Some slight corridor noise.’ The quietest, most expensive rooms are in the attic. Front rooms might hear late-night revellers. In the restaurant, facing the square, ‘breakfast had fresh baguettes and rolls, a toasting machine, good coffee, but packaged orange juice, alas.’ There’s no restaurant, ‘but we enjoyed eating at Les Quinze Nits in the nearby Plaça Real: must be the best value in town.’
