Good Hotel Guide Review
In the historic Gothic quarter by the cathedral, this 18th-century palace has been restored, ‘imaginatively and stylishly’, as a small hotel. ‘The contemporary artistic decor combines sensitively with the building’s character,’ say the nominators. ‘Judicious lighting, like an operatic stage set, makes it a warm haven within minutes’ walk of La Rambla. The staff are unfailingly warm, unobtrusively helpful.’ Bedrooms have discreet colours, ‘state-of-the-art’ furnishings, plasma-screen TV, DVD-player; quality fittings and ‘excellent showers’ in the bathroom. Breakfast, served in the library, is a buffet; fresh fruits, fresh-squeezed juice, breads, croissants, ‘appetizing cooked dishes’. The Neri restaurant serves Mediterranean cuisine; ‘We didn’t dine, but the meals are said to be excellent.’ The lounge bar, which spills onto the street in summer, serves coffees, cocktails and snacks, and the urban garden on the rooftop serves cocktails and tapas.
