In the “charming, quiet setting” of the tree-filled main square of this famous Burgundy wine village, this old hostelry is now part of COMO Hotels and Resorts. The emphasis is on the food, which is served in a room with beautiful limestone walls and high wood-beamed ceilings, or al fresco on the spacious terrace. Chef Romain Versino is at the helm. There is no residents’ lounge and the bedrooms vary: some are “huge and luxurious”; smaller ones are at the top. There are also 3 rooms in an additional building, Villa Christine. “Our small room was adequate for an overnight. The small bathroom was modern but the bath was short.” Breakfast “was of the same high standard as dinner: ample choice, smiling, attentive service”. The list of white Montrachets is “of telephone-directory size”, and many are “hugely expensive”. The bar/lounge has a wood fire and wines by the glass.
