Good Hotel Guide Review
In the Morvan nature reserve in southern Burgundy, this 16th/18th-century château is run as a chambres d”hôtes by its English-speaking owners Catherine and Coen Stork (she is Belgian, he is Dutch). “They made us feel like their personal guests,” one couple wrote. The bedrooms are “of the highest standard; old-fashioned, but with modern comforts”. The setting, with panoramic views, is “stunning” and tranquil: it is in a huge park (designed by Le Nôtre), with woods, streams, ponds and fields. “The owners” chocolate Labrador, Timber, went with us on walks, and we saw roe deer, partridges and hares.” The five-course set dinner (chosen the day before) is served in the candlelit dining room (“decorated in warm colours”) or on a terrace. “Dining with the owners was a treat.” Breakfasts are “lavish”. House parties are catered for.
