Good Hotel Guide Review
Six hundred works of art by a minimalist American artist, Donald Sultan, fill this designer hotel, a conversion of four 18th-century baroque houses on the Danube embankment, opposite the Parliament building. A visitor called it ‘really nice, with very helpful English-speaking staff’. Another adds: ‘A memorable stay in a stylish hotel, from champagne on the house at midnight on New Year’s Eve, watching from the front door the superb display of fireworks arching over the Danube and the Parliament building, to the friendly reception staff who booked us on a comprehensive tour of Budapest and recommended a splendid restaurant, Kisbuda Gyöngye, a short taxi ride away.’ Most bedrooms face the river; large suites are at the back. All are quiet, thanks to effective double glazing. The decor is ‘modern and cheerful’ (orange, yellow, blue, green). The ‘very good’ restaurant serves Hungarian and international food and there’s a bar serving coffee and cake during the day. Breakfast is a huge hot and cold buffet. A limited room service menu serves snacks such as soups, sandwiches and salads. There are extensive function facilities. Other art’otels are in Berlin and Dresden. The Castle district is an easy walk away.
