Good Hotel Guide Review
Right by the sea, this 17th-century manor house, just east of the port, is now an attractive hotel whose owner, a Mme Chapalain and her son, ‘are very kind’, says a returning visitor. The best bedrooms, with views of sea or town, are in the main house. ‘Ours, white and spacious, had four windows with long yellow curtains: one opened on to a private terrace with loungers. Stylish bathroom.’ The sea-facing Michelin-starred restaurant, Le Yachtman, with its huge fireplace, serves Loïc Le Bail’s ‘cuisine du terroir’, eg, cochon de lait saucisse et boudin noir; bar de ligne, galette de blé noir. ‘Delicious food, especially the puddings.’ There is a terrace by the sea for summer meals. Breakfast, with fresh pastries, orange juice, yogurt, is mostly enjoyed. The car-free Île de Batz (with bicycles for hire), opposite, is worth visiting.
