Good Hotel Guide Review
‘Superbly restored’ by owners Jean-Yves and Christine Marivin, and with ‘furnishings tastefully selected to create an authentic contemporary ambience’, this stone-built manor house was found ‘delightful’ by regular Guide correspondents: ‘Our welcome could not have been warmer.’ The bedrooms are romantically named: Typhaine, Tournemine, etc: some have a fireplace and beamed ceiling; two are in a watermill by a lake. Also in the grounds are fountains, a medieval garden, a large swimming pool with ‘aqua-musique’. ‘Personal service’ is provided by the owners. ‘Breakfast, one of the best we have had in France, was in the large main hall.’ Dinner is a set menu at €49 and a reservation must be made by 8pm the previous evening. The setting is rural, well away from the nearest main road, and the house is ‘very quiet at night’. Ten minutes’ drive away is the ‘rather smart’ resort of Pléneuf-Val-André with many good seafood restaurants, eg, Au Biniou.
