Good Hotel Guide Review
In the beautiful Jungfrau region of the Bernese Oberland, this classic hotel was built by the Hauser family in 1904. Silvia and Urs Hauser are now the ‘hands-on’ proprietors; they and their multinational staff are ‘warmly welcoming’, and ‘everything works efficiently’, say admirers. The tall pink concrete building is ‘easily spotted as one drives into Grindelwald’. Its ‘institutional’ appearance belies a ‘charming’ interior, and it has spectacular views of the world famous Eiger North Face, the Wetterhorn and surrounding mountains. ‘Our suite had two patio doors on to its large balcony.’ ‘Our spacious room had a narrow veranda, a bit vertigo-inducing.’ The food ‘was excellent, served in large quantities’, says one reporter; another thought it ‘sometimes over-elaborate’. The dining room is ‘comfortable’ and the hors d’œuvre buffet is admired. In summer, Urs Hauser leads excursions to local farmers, where you taste their cheese and milk, in winter he takes you curling and tobogganing. There are family rooms, special menus for children, and a games room. Also free Wi-Fi.
