Good Hotel Guide Review
‘Particularly enjoyed’, the Schlachter-Ebert family’s modern chalet-style hotel has a ‘spectacular setting’ amid fields, facing ‘a panorama of peaks’, on the edge of a ski and summer resort in the Allgäu Alps. Behind is the high Falkenstein mountain with its gaunt ruined castle. ‘Not slick but very comfortable’ and ‘professionally run’, it has a rustic decor: wood carvings, and ‘some whimsy’. A panoramic winter garden is a feature. Barbara Schlachter-Ebert’s cooking (Michelin Bib Gourmand) is ‘good with hearty portions’. Her husband, Bernard, is in charge of the wine. Meals are taken alfresco in fine weather. Service, by waitresses in local dress, ‘can be slow, but is friendly’. Breakfast is a ‘wonderful’ buffet. Geraniums on balconies; deer in the meadows; ‘cowbells by day, croaking frogs in the evening, otherwise peace’. There is good accommodation for families, and a ‘very small’ indoor swimming pool. The hotel is thirty minutes away from the Castle Neuschwanstein, well worth a visit.
