Good Hotel Guide Review
A traditional mountain hotel run by Walter Wimmer and his wife, Sabine, who is also the chef. More than 200 years old, this large brown chalet with flowery balconies is in the Black Forest near the high Feldberg peak. The ‘warm personal style, good meals, lovely setting’ and comfortable rooms have been enjoyed. Furnishings are rustic, in local style. No lounge, but most bedrooms have a sitting area; some have a four-poster; some are split-level, with the bed in the eaves and a mini-kitchen below, hidden in a painted wardrobe. All rooms are different, with unusual lighting effects, such as tiny star-like lights in the ceiling. Bathrooms tend to be small. In the ‘large, attractive’ restaurant, lively with locals, the waitresses wear folk costume. Breakfast is ‘beautifully presented’, with a wide-ranging buffet. Families are welcomed. Two roads, one fairly busy, run alongside.
