High on a cliff, the pink 12th-century palace of the Sasso family, now a ‘very fine hotel’, has ‘spellbinding views’ from its terrace over the Amalfi coast. A combination of medieval, baroque and Arabian architecture, it stands in ‘delightful’, large, sloping, subtropical gardens with ‘plenty of shady/sunny spots to relax in’. The ‘relaxing atmosphere’ and ‘helpful staff’ are praised. The bedrooms, with sea or mountain view, are ‘beautifully furnished’. ‘Our big room had a lovely balcony.’ ‘Huge bed, top-quality linens, supremely comfortable.’ Many bathrooms have a spa bath. Breakfast has a huge buffet, and you can order cooked dishes and champagne. Light meals and drinks are served in the Caffè dell’Arte. The restaurant, Rossellinis (the chef since 2013 is Michele Deleo, formerly at Le Gavroche), is mostly admired. The ‘stunning’ swimming pool has a window, allowing underwater swimmers to enjoy the view. If you arrive by car, valet parking is available for €34 per day.
