Good Hotel Guide Review
“What a good stop-over,” say visitors. “Super dinner, comfy room, lovely village.” Owned since 1785 by the wine-producing Koehler family (“much in evidence”), this cheerful restaurant-with-rooms stands in a “pretty, peaceful” village, amid the orchards and vineyards of the Vosges foothills. The panelled dining room, with low-beamed ceiling, is much patronised by locals. Gilbert Koehler is chef; Madame Koehler is front-of-house: she and her staff are found “charming”, “not over-formal”. Aperitifs are taken on a terrace with parasols. Breakfast, a generous buffet, includes local honey and cold meats. Bedroom decor is “modern French floral”; the largest rooms, each with a big sliding window, are in an annexe. Lower ones have a little patio, upper ones a balcony and a view of farm animals. But a basement room was “a bit dark”, and another room had a “poor outlook”. There are “fantastic walks” around, and “a dégustation in the family”s cave is recommended”.
