You may find it hard to leave this large stone villa with spacious rooms, home-made cake, triumphant breakfasts, walks from the doorstep and sweeping views south over Swaledale. Sheila and Robert Mitchell are 'as friendly and welcoming as ever', said guests on a return visit. The large, light-filled rooms are ‘beautifully furnished and presented’ with Arts and Crafts touches; there are sofas, books and a wood-burning stove in the lounge, and views over the pretty cottage garden and beyond from the conservatory. ‘Extremely comfortable bedrooms’, with exposed-stone walls, pine or brass bedsteads, pretty fabrics and plaid throws, share those ‘superb, far-reaching’ views. All have bathrobes, and baths as well as showers; edible treats, too. 'A highlight is always the award-winning breakfast' which is 'varied and delicious', including pancakes, smoked haddock, local eggs, croissants from the village bakery, and Sheila’s award-winning marmalade. The Mitchells, who have 'excellent knowledge of the local area', advise on dining options (some walkable), can provide picnics and packed lunches, and suggest walks.
