Good Hotel Guide Review

Tucked away down a farm track just three miles from the city centre, this rustic-chic B&B wins praise for its 'beautiful accommodation in a quiet, restful setting'. 'We were made to feel welcome from the moment we stepped out of the car,' said delighted guests, who were greeted by artist and owner Jane Haigh, and given a home-made cream tea. Bedrooms are in former outbuildings, converted with wit and imagination. The Garden Room, with super-king bed, has a bath and wet-room shower, and a furnished patio under a pergola overlooking a pretty garden. Harris Room has Harris tweed fabrics, a king-size bed and a large wet room. All rooms have underfloor heating, an espresso machine, mini-fridge, milk, flowers, original artwork, and posh toiletries. In the morning, a hamper, delivered to the door, contains a cooked breakfast, fruit salad, yogurt, croissants, pain au chocolat and free-range eggs from the resident hens. 'Breakfast was first class with a wide variety of produce, and always delivered with a smile.' Two stables and a paddock are available by arrangement if you want to bring your own horse. Advice on local restaurants as well as lifts are freely given. (Linda Whitby, CW, RG)
