More on the Yorkshire Dales

A haven of family fun, charming places to stay, heritage, shopping and excellent food and drink, the Yorkshire Dales is a popular destination for UK holidays and weekends away for a multitude of reasons. For families, horse riding and activities in the National Park are a joyful way to explore, with the caves at White Scar, the Blea Moor tunnel and the Settle-Carlisle railway proving a timeless favourite.

The area’s history is part of what makes it so appealing - the breathtaking Cistersian Fountains Abbey and the Study Royal Water Gardens near Ripon never fail to disappoint, the Duke of Devonshire’s estate at Bolton Abbey, the 900 year old Skipton Castle, and the magnificent medieval fortress at Bolton Castle are all filled with intrigue.

In Ingleton the riverside pottery on display in the markets is testament to crafts old and new, while the region’s hardy sheep still provide its local knitting industry with ample material for charming pullovers. The Dales Festival of Food and Drink is a highlight of the year, not to mention the Black Sheep Brewery Boots & Beer Festival and the Dentdale Music and Beer Festival, all of which give you an indication as to why the hotels and B&Bs are quite so particular about the food that they serve - it’s all part of the Yorkshire welcome, and the beauty of a holiday in the area.
