Hotels in Northumberland

The northernmost county of England, Northumberland borders Cumbria, County Durham and Tyne and Wear as well as the Scottish Borders, and is a beautiful part of the UK complete with both cities and countryside to explore. Key attractions in the area range from Alnwick Castle - a medieval castle in magical grounds, to Holy Island castle and priory - in fact, the area has more castles than any other county in the UK. Of course, it’s also home to the world famous Hadrian’s Wall, Roman Britain's biggest building project dating back nearly 2000 years.

Meanwhile, the countryside in Northumberland makes it a hotspot for walking, cycling, fishing and wildlife watching throughout the year. A more recent addition wowing tourists, is the Northumberland International Dark Sky Park, one of Europe’s largest areas of protected night sky, where there is recognised to be minimal light pollution and you can see up to 2000 stars at any one time, including (with the naked eye), the Andromeda Galaxy – a vast island of stars similar to the Milky Way. Pop on a pair of binoculars and you might even spot a meteor shower!
