Best luxury and boutique hotels, B&Bs in Hungary

A pleasant three-star hotel in a trim white villa, in a quiet location, close to city centre.

Occupying the lower floors of a 1930s-style block in the business district of Pest, this medium-priced hotel (part of the small CityHotel chain) is on a traffic-free street near the main shopping street (Váci utca).

A visitor loved this imposing Art Nouveau white palace (1918) of ‘faded charm’. ‘Perfectly positioned’ on the right bank of the Danube, it has ‘slightly echoey’ public rooms, marbled halls, stained-glass windows, wrought ironwork, a splendid stairway.

Hotel Victoria, Budapest

On the Buda bank of the Danube, five minutes’ walk to the Chain Bridge (an ‘excellent and convenient’ location), is this newly-renovated B&B hotel.

Baltazar Budapest, Budapest

This family-run boutique hotel opened in 2013 and is located within in the walls of Buda Castle at the northern end of the castle district.

Bohem Art Hotel, Budapest

This hip art hotel is centrally located in historic downtown Budapest, just 50 metres from the Danube and a few steps from the city’s main pedestrian thoroughfare, Vaci Street.

St George Residence, Budapest

Located in the Buda Castle Quarter, St George Residence is one of the city’s oldest hotels and has hosted many illustrious guests over the years.

Lanchid 19, Budapest

Set on the banks of the Danube River, below the Buda Royal Castle, this design hotel has a striking glass facade and rooms with views of the castle and the river; suites have terraces with river views and glassed-in jacuzzi tubs.
