Best restaurants with rooms in Lake District

Surrounded by one of the UK’s largest National Parks with mountains, lakes and thriving communities, the Lake District remains one of the country’s most popular places to escape and in no small part that’s because of the exemplary hospitality at its hotels.

The area’s famed beauty has enchanted artists and writers across the centuries, not least Beatrix Potter, who made her home at Hill Top – now a popular National Trust property. Meanwhile, other attractions range from water sports to plenty of walking routes, Lowther Castle & Gardens to Windermere, Derwentwater, Whinlatter Forest and Wordsworth Grasmere where you will find William Wordsworth’s Dove Cottage.

The Lake District is also famous for its food, providing ample opportunities for the regional restaurants-with-rooms to showcase their culinary talents. Grasmere gingerbread has been made in the same place according to the same recipe since the middle of the 19th century; sticky toffee pudding was invented on Ullswater, and the famous Kendal mint cake has been made by the Romneys of Kendal since 1918.
