Good Hotel Guide Review
Old-meets-new in this revived 16th-century coaching inn with a large front patio, in a historic Wealden village. Against a backdrop of beams, brick walls, and velvet wingback chairs, Kentish wines, ales and ciders headline the drinks list in the bar. Hungry visitors can choose between small plates, savoury waffles, steaks, slow-cooked lamb shank, sourdough pizzas and pub staples, alongside vegan and vegetarian options in the industrial-chic restaurant. Readers enjoyed drinks in the evening sun on the patio. Upstairs, creatively decorated bedrooms (some for families) have coffee (cafetière and pod) and tea, fresh milk, home-made brownies, bath robes and botanical toiletries. A retro telephone adds a quirky twist. It's all 'nicely furnished and decorated.' Close to National Trust attractions Scotney Castle and Sissinghurst Castle Garden. (Carol Jackson)
