Good Hotel Guide Review
In a shady garden on the edge of this Rhône valley town, this famous restaurant-with-rooms (Relais & Châteaux) was founded by Sophie Pic almost a century ago. Now, her great-granddaughter, Anne-Sophie, is chef, continuing the tradition of this ‘gourmand dynasty’ (Anne-Sophie’s father, Jacques, was one of the great masters of modern French cuisine). She wins three Michelin stars for, eg, filet de bœuf et foie gras. Her husband, David Sinapian, is director. ‘Dinner was brilliant, inventive, beautifully served in an attractive room,’ one couple wrote. ‘Anne and David, much in evidence, both delightful, speak good English.’ Others admired the ‘warm and generous ambience’, the ‘excellent service’ and the ‘superb wines’. The bedrooms, finely decorated, are ‘comfortable, practical and quiet, very good for a short stay’. Each has a marble bathroom; many have a balcony overlooking a courtyard where meals are served. Breakfast, which comes with a bottle of marc, is also praised.
