Good Hotel Guide Review
‘Ten wonderful days. My favourite hotel anywhere,’ wrote a devotee who celebrated his 80th birthday at Franziska and Gabriel Taugwalder’s chalet hotel. ‘A very friendly, well-maintained establishment,’ was another comment. Near the centre but in a ‘tranquil part of town’, it has ‘amazing’ views: from the south-facing balconies you can see the Matterhorn, six kilometres away. The bedrooms (most are decent-sized, but singles are small) have ‘simple but tasteful’ furniture, large wardrobe; ‘everything important is good’; ‘no fake antiques’. On the ground floor is a large sitting area with open fire, and a panoramic à la carte restaurant with adjoining terrace and garden. Cooking is traditional. Breakfasts are copious. The fitness centre has a ‘nice-sized’ swimming pool (its huge windows look over the town and the Matterhorn); also sauna, whirlpool, etc. The sister hotel next door, Alfa, slightly cheaper, is also recommended. A little electric taxi meets guests at the station.
