Good Hotel Guide Review
‘We cannot adequately praise this hotel,’ say visitors about this 17th-century mas (Relais du Silence). It stands up a private road on a large estate, outside this beautiful village on the southern slopes of the Luberon. ‘The cross-vaulted arches in the lounge and restaurant, combined with the traditional Provençal colours, are a feast for the senses. This was matched with the artistry of Patrick Lherm in a series of faultless meals. His wife, Michèle, runs front-of-house with style.’ An earlier report: ‘The extraordinary old building has had bits added on all sides. Five steep, narrow stone staircases creep up the outside to some rooms (an internal staircase is more secure).’ Rooms are graded from ‘comfort’ to ‘luxe’; they are traditionally furnished, some have a terrace, most have ‘wonderful views’. A visitor in 2015 noted, ‘our room was beautifully furnished, the bed was very comfortable and the bathroom was very modern’. A large Lurçat tapestry hangs at reception. The restaurant is a light, modern extension with a panoramic terrace. ‘Menus are original; prices are moderate. It is a privilege to stay in such an interesting place.’ ‘Very good wine list with a lot of local wines to try. This is a small and very quiet hotel, but in our opinion it is just about perfect as a base to enjoy the Luberon’.
